Back to it

Well, today was the last day of Christmas break. We had lots of down time over the last 2 weeks. It was really nice to take a break from the daily grind and relax. Today was a small dose of reality. Bobby took the day off, I worked half a day and then we decided to tackle the attic. We have been putting this off for years because it is way too hot for 10+ months of the year to stand being up there. It wasn't as bad as I thought. We mostly just organized. I found stuff that I forgot I even had.

The good thing about the school routine is that the kids will be in bed by 8:30. I am exhausted from staying up to midnight every night.

This is what was going on here last night.

Tonight, Mason and Kaylea are bathed and ready for bed....

and lunches are packed....

Ice, Ice Baby!

I always get a kick out of our Florida town having ice skating every winter. It is such a nice holiday tradition that was forgotten for many years by my family. I still remember how badly my feet hurt during the last ice skating expedition.

We decided to give it a go this week. I opted out this time. I really enjoyed watching and sipping hot chocolate. It is a great place to people watch. I made a friend with a fellow mom watcher and just had myself a good ole time.
I think skating is like riding a bike. The kids and Bobby didn't miss a beat. Mason and Bobby only fell 1 time.
Kaylea brought her friend Courtney.

Mason wanted to pose with his skate.

And on the second day

We are two days into the new year and I feel so refreshed. I think I sorta have this feeling every year. Maybe, I san stick to all my new goals, plans, chore charts and budget ideas longer than 2 weeks.

My 1st goal of the year is to blog about my day every day in 2010. I want to remember the small (but big) moments of my day. This is my attempt to slow down and savor the moment.

Today......
I caught Mason doing a little back scratching. What you can't tell from this picture is that the room is dark except for his new disco ball light.

New Years Eve

Our New Year's Eve was just perfect. Nothing fancy - just dinner with the extended family at Bonefish followed by a long visit with my sofa. This has been our first NYE spent at home in years and it suited my just fine. Mason barely stayed awake until the big ball drop. We all managed to stay awake, cheered, hugged each other (pets included) and then to bed.

It couldn't have been more perfect. I think it means I am getting old. But, we all seemed to be happy and that's all that matters.

Blah!!

Blah! What has happened to this day. It started off well enough but is going downhill fast.

1. Mason has a small cold (as previously) mentioned and is using that as his excuse to avoid
everything. He whined so much during homework that I had to leave the table and dive into
the Halloween candy. I really need to throw all of it AWAY. Now we are taking a "break" while he plays the
Wii. Now I have to motivate him out the door to karate.

2. I made chili in the crockpot today. It is extra spicy just the way I like it. I always put a blob of sour cream
on top to put out the fire. Well, I made the mistake of leaving Mario in the kitchen unattended and he
helped himself to the whole container of sour cream. He is now in time out.

3. After 1 + years of complaining about our refrigerator door making a popping sound, I finally had it fixed
today. Kaylea strolled in from school noticed that the door was demagnetized and asked why it was so bare.
I explained that the popping sound was fixed. She slapped the door and pouted out of the room. She said
and I quote - "That was the only thing that I liked about our frig. Now I hate it."

Is it bedtime yet??

The real reason

Mason asked to stay home from school today because he has a small cold. I agreed since he hasn't missed a day this year. Plus, I didn't want him to spread his germs to his classmates.

But ....

I have a feeling this is his real reason -

He has been playing non-stop with his nutcrackers. He is starting a collection. This is his third year and he wants me to take him to Target to get a second one for this year. I gave him my usual response of "We'll see".

It was the cuties thing this morning. He woke up own his on at 7:00 and walked out with all 3 nutcrackers in hand.

Where I Sleep

I really need new bedding! I LOVE the comforter that we currently have but not long after we bought it my sweet dog Boomer went pee pee on it. Not once, not twice but three times. I don't know what was going on with him. That was a couple of years ago and the problem seems to have stopped.

It is dry clean only and after 2 cleanings it still smelled like pee. Gross, I know!
The last time I took it in to the cleaners they suggested having it washed. Same price ($25.00) but it didn't help at all. 4 cleanings at $25.00 really starts to add up. I just can't get over the smell. I think it may be in my head but still I can't get over it.
I am definitley looking for something that I can wash at home. Duvet covers seem to be the best option. I have been debating this purchase for months and just can't make the big move.

Here are my two favorite options:

It has to match these curtains because they absolutely can't be replaced at this point.

Hopefully, I can make a decision soon. They are an internet only item which make it more difficult to decide. It would realy help to see in person.
